Sign Language Instructor (Contractor)

Instructor Duties:
Teach weekly Sign Language classes using a standardized curriculum (TrueWay). Design and teach weekly lesson plans using teaching strategies to include various learning styles. Assess student learning and progress.
Course Schedule:
Classes will be taught in person at a corporate campus in a designated city (see below) to employees interested in learning Sign Language. Classes will be offered at days/times depending on the times agreed upon by the instructor, site and site ambassador(s). As of now, we are looking for someone who is available to teach starting in September 2024 (Must be available between 9 AM - 4 PM in their respective time zone).

COMPENSATION: $50 - $125/hour (depending on experience)
REQUIREMENTS:
-
Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing
-
Native Sign Language fluency
-
Minimum four years of experience in teaching American Sign Language

Reliable internet, computer, mouse and keyboard and other equipment necessary for teaching

An adaptable curriculum for adult corporate learners (without tests, homework or grading requirements)

Adhere to ASLTA Code of Ethics
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to articulate, represent professional demeanor and ability to take initiative

Command of theoretical knowledge of human behavior and learning including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation, and feedback techniques

Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with a wide-range of people including teachers, parents, and students

Proven written and signing communication skills

Strong organizational and planning skills

Effective problem solver and self-motivated learner

Ability to use instructional adaptive technology tools in online courses and in person

Technological knowledge and comfort to conduct classes on virtual platforms (including by not limited to Google Meet, Zoom, Webex, etc)

While performing the duties of this job, the instructor is frequently required to stand and sometimes walk and sit. The instructor must use hands, arms and fingers to input data, handle, feel or reach. While performing the duties of this job, the individual may occasionally push or lift up to 15 lbs such as boxes, supplies, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
