We are a 24/7 company with emergency response and continuous operations responsibilities. Others in our industry include Municipalities, Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) and Veolia. The Operations Engineer will develop knowledge to allow for future leadership roles, overseeing the performance of treatment systems while participating as part of the field operations team in attaining compliance in our heavily regulated industry.
What You Will Be Doing
- Monitor the performance of water and wastewater treatment systems within a quality management system
- Report on the performance of sites through the required chain of command, including preparation of reporting required for regulatory and contractual compliance
- Review, understand, and interpret provincial and federal acts and regulations
- Develop advanced knowledge and identify operational impacts of regulatory mechanisms, including the Safe Drinking Water Act, Health Protection and Promotion Act, Ontario Water Resources Act, ECAs, PTTWs, and directives
- Engineering calculations and design work include but are not limited to, sizing calculations, chemical dose ratios, selecting control system settings, and using AutoCAD to produce design, construction, and system drawings.
- Assess existing systems to identify and evaluate existing infrastructure on the condition and safe operation of the facilities
- Prepare detailed scope and budget estimates for structural repair, replacement, and maintenance requirements. Assist with prioritizing projects alongside overall facility requirements.
- Work with management, operations, other departments, vendors, owners, contractors, and other stakeholders to achieve desired project outcomes
- Provide project management, including project design, work plan development, budget preparation and cost accounting
- Respond to emergency calls and be available for calls during on-call duty periods
- Occasional travel to sites using a personal vehicle
- Other duties as required
Who We Are Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technologist or other relevant engineering program
- Valid G driver’s license and reliable vehicle
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a similar role.
- Achieved or actively working towards Limited Surface Water (LSW) and Operator in Training (OIT) licenses
- Achieve or actively working towards a Professional Engineer license
- Actively working toward a Professional Engineering certification is an asset
- Strong working knowledge of biological relationships and experience in the design, specification, commissioning, and operation of control equipment for water/wastewater treatment systems
- Must be able to work independently with little supervision and be able to work quickly with extremely high accuracy
- High level of skill with MS Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word), AutoCAD, Visio, and other computer software, including digital device applications
- The ability to efficiently multi-task and triage assignments to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work effectively in both individual and team environments
- Demonstrated ability to plan and carry out projects, including working in teams, managing resources, directing field programs, analyzing data and writing reports
- Great attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with active listening
- Confidence in asking questions and clarification on tasks assigned
- A desire to learn and take initiative to always improve
