Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement category strategies and plans to achieve sales and profit targets.
- Conduct Market research and analysis for consumer trends, competitor products and market pricing to enhance sales in our stores.
- Monitor market dynamics, including consumer preferences, industry trends and regulatory requirements, and adjust category strategies accordingly.
- Manage product assortment, including assortment planning, selection, and optimization.
- Determine pricing strategies and manage price positioning to optimize sales and profitability.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure alignment with sales forecasts, working closely with the purchasers and store managers to minimize over stock and out of stocks.
- Work closely with merchandiser team to ensure optimal store setup and product placements.
- Analyze sales data and key performance indicators to identify opportunities for improvement and make data-driven recommendations.
- Conduct regular performance reviews of products and suppliers to ensure they meet quality standards and customer expectations.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new product developments, and emerging technologies relevant to the category.
Requirements
- Completion of a University degree in Business Merchandising, Marketing, Business Management or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years experience in category management role in the retail industry, with grocery retail or beverage alcohol is preferred.
- Knowledge of product categories typical to the grocery/convenience, or beverage alcohol sectors.
- Familiarity with supply chain and inventory management principles.
- Proficiency in using category management tools.
- Strong understanding of financial principles and ability to analyze profitability and sales data.
- Proficient skill in Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Excel, Pivot tables and Power Query usage.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of company personnel and work related associates.
- Ability to negotiate and influence others effectively.
- A professional who is enthusiastic, energetic and has a positive attitude.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and independently when required.
- Excellent organizational, time management and multitasking skills.
- Ability to travel as required to meet suppliers or conduct store visits.
- Valid driver's license, clean driving record and willingness to travel within Niagara Peninsula.
- Able to pass a police background check.
