VP of Finance
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Vice President (VP) of Finance to lead and manage the financial operations of our organization. The VP of Finance will oversee key financial activities, including budgeting, forecasting, analysis, and the preparation of financial reports, while ensuring compliance with company policies and GAAP. This role will play a vital part in financial decision-making and the company’s long-term growth. This position reports to the President and is located in our Grimsby office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Team Management: Direct and oversee the Accounting Manager, including the review of journal entries, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and statutory reporting.
- Internal Controls & Compliance: Establish and monitor internal controls to ensure financial activities comply with GAAP and organizational policies.
- Financial Closing & Documentation: Approve and authorize closing adjustments for home sales and act as signing authority for all closing documentation with lawyers.
- Process Improvement: Collaborate with staff to analyze and improve current financial processes to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
- Financial Analysis & Reporting: Provide necessary financial analysis to support informed decision-making and prepare monthly reports for financing requirements.
- Financial Planning & Negotiations: Lead financial planning efforts, including procurement of funds, and negotiate financing packages with financial institutions and owners.
- Year-End Preparation: Oversee the preparation of year-end working papers and coordinate with external auditors.
- Project Budgeting & Financial Presentations: Prepare project budgets, as well as present financial information to the executive team and other stakeholders.
- Rental Property Management: Assist the President with the management of rental properties, ensuring financial and operational efficiency.
- Policy & Risk Management: Establish and recommend company policies and advise management on property and liability insurance coverage.
- Positive Work Environment: Contribute to a positive, collaborative work culture by sharing functional and technical knowledge and adhering to company guidelines.
- Any other duties that may be assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or commerce preferred
- CPA designation preferred
- Extensive experience in financial leadership and management with a homebuilder company
- Proven track record in directing financial operations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen understanding of financial data interpretation
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex financial information to stakeholders at all levels
- Effective leadership and people-management skills
- Creative problem solver
