Business Development Executive
As an experienced sales professional, you know that it’s always easier to sell something you believe in. If it’s in a hot industry, that’s even better!
Throw in an engaging work culture, and the chance to help shape a growing business, and you’ve got a rare opportunity.
We are MakerKids, and that’s the opportunity we’re offering. MakerKids, a certified B Corp, develops maker learning programs for kids and educators, and runs one of the only makerspaces for kids in the world.
We provide amazing interest-driven STEM programs to help kids move from being consumers to creators.
We've been featured in major media such as Wired, CTV and the Globe and Mail, and have spoken at SXSW, Maker Faire, MakerCon, and more.
Business Development Executive
Your goal in this position is to grow the business, as a hunter first, and a farmer second.
Our customer base is made up of schools and parents. For schools, you’ll connect with warm and cold contacts, meet with principals and decision makers, and then establish us as a go-to provider for years to come.
For parents, you’ll meet them in our office or their homes, learn about their family’s priorities, and show them how MakerKids can help them. When you leave, they’ll feel more like our partners than customers.
As the first dedicated sales professional here, you’ll significantly impact the business now, and in the future. You’ll train our instructors on upselling techniques, and build our sales systems so that future salespeople can follow the processes you establish and refine.
The Right Fit
We’re looking for someone with more than experience in business development; we want someone who fits here. You’re the person we’re looking for if you’re:
- A mission fit – when you think about empowering the next generation to create and invent, your heart beats a little faster.
- Growth-oriented – you love to learn new things and you’re always discovering new hacks to improve yourself.
- A great communicator - you know how to read people, and adjust your style to serve your audience.
- Drive – When you set a goal, you’re relentless and unstoppable.
The Practical
This is a full-time, permanent role with flexible hours between 8am and 8pm. When you’re working with schools, you’ll work earlier in the day. When you meet with parents, you’ll work into the evenings.
You'll earn base plus commission, with on-target, first year earnings between $62,000 and $100,000. We also offer a health spending account, paid professional development, free yoga classes, and fun team socials.
Our bright, colourful, dog-friendly Makerspace office is located at 2451 Bloor Street West, steps from Jane TTC station and a vibrant Toronto neighbourhood.
Qualifications
- Experience in inside and outside sales, ideally using a consultative method
- Bachelor’s degree in business, STEM, or related field
- Valid driver’s license and vehicle
- Experience using sales software
- Experience using PowerPoint
- Experience working with children (an asset)
