Dentists like to smile too! And there’s nothing that makes them happier than the support of their own, dedicated professional association.
We’re the Ontario Dental Association, and we represent over 90% of dentists in Ontario: advocating on their behalf to improve dentistry for both dentists and patients, and keeping Ontarians smiling.
Working with other health-care professionals, governments, the private sector and the public, the ODA provides a wide range of services, resources and continuing education programs to support ODA dentists in their pursuit of professional excellence and personal fulfillment.
Now, we’re looking to hire a Health Policy Representative to our organization. If you’re ready to join a fun and close-knit team, in a career-defining role, then we want to hear from you!
Analyst, Health Policy
The heart of this role will be communication and knowledge transfer: your job will be to field queries from our membership through phone and email while helping to develop resources that ensure those questions don’t need to be asked again.
Because government and professional regulation is fluid, you’ll need to stay informed on trends and changes that affect our membership. Using a detailed knowledge of dentistry and relevant health policy, you’ll guide members through policy and legislative changes, updates, and inform them on ODA’s responses.
The best in this role will be both helpful, resourceful, and detail oriented. We receive a diverse range of questions from members; you’ll need to develop expertise and specialization quickly in order to be effective in this role. You won’t always have the right answer at your fingertips, but you’ll still need to show members that they’re in the right hands by taking down their information, looking into the problem, and getting back to them promptly. Understanding the importance of customer-service and accuracy is of utmost importance.
Practically speaking, here’s some of what you’ll do:
- Provide resources, information, and advice to solve member problems, escalating inquiries as necessary
- Respond to ODA member and public inquiries with accurate and up-to-date information (including queries related to the ODA Mediations Program)
- Provide accurate details on issues of compliance and ensure members are given proper advice relative to laws and regulations
- Identify member needs and support review of health policy issues (e.g. occupational health and safety) as assigned by the Health Policy Specialist
- Provide background research to aid in member resource development (FAQs, Newsletters, updates, etc.)
The best in this role will come equipped with:
- Strong communication – whether by email or phone, you use clear, professional communication at all times; you make a strong impression on members and the public by being precise and helpful.
- Time management skills – you employ strong organization skills in managing your time and working within tight deadlines.
- Team focus – you’re collaborative and give and receive feedback with ease. You know when you’re able to take care of something on your own and you aren’t afraid to ask for help when it’s needed.
- Sound judgment – you’re an exceptional critical thinker and have confidence in what you know and what you don’t; when it comes to helping our members with compliance, you use sound judgment to ensure they stay within laws and regulations.
If making a meaningful impact on a growing organization sounds exciting, then this is the role for you!
